Candy Cox Interview to www.rave.cz (Apokalypsa Techno Congress ) by Misa Salacova

***

Misa: Hello Candy! Please, try to introduce yourself ? just shortly, who you are, where do you come from?what we would know about you?

Candy: Hello!! First of all, thank you so much for this interview, is really nice and it?s a pleasure for me to have a little chat with you guys!!
Well, my name is Carolina, I am from Brasil, 25 years old, I?m a dj and that?s why I live for!!!

Misa: Apokalypsa will be your first gig in Czech Republic, right? Do you know something about our country? If we say ?Czech Republic? - what do you imagine?

Candy: Yes, it will be my first time! I always have been curious to know more about Czech Republic. What I know about Czech, is that is a really beautifull country, with such beautifull cities and places, I?ve heard that some film directors likes very much to film movies at some places there for being so beautifull, hmmm?I know the writter Kafka too, and I know u guys have great sportists, like a really good football and basketball team, and other sports too!! I hope to know more about Czech when I get there, im sure that there is so much amazing things to know and see in your country, and I really want to taste Czech traditional food?hehehe

Misa: At this part of Apokalypsa you will be the only female DJ ? what do you think ? do the ladies behind decks have something more easier, than men DJs?

Candy: Hehehe, big responsibility being around this great guys at Apokalypsa?and, well?for some reason, women tend to be more sensitive than men, and this can sure help us to make a good conexion to the crowd when we are playing, I really don?t know why, but the public in general feels more open to show some love to us women djs, being girls or boys in the crowd, they are a little more open with us, and this is amazin for me, I luv it!!?.but I don?t think we have some kind of advantage over man djs, maybe only the fact that being a woman, makes more pressure on djanes, because the crowd and everybody else demands a work really well done, cause there aren?t so many women djs as men. But I think we are just as capable, skilled, good will and we make a lot of hard work just as them to do everything! The old ?male sexism concept? is dead already! We are here since forever, just like them, and we can make good work just as them, or even better sometimes, but, fortunetlly, this is not a competition!! So women djs deserv the same respect and I believe that there is place for everyone behind the decks or not, doenst matter the sex, the age, race, style, roots or anything! The world is for everyone!!

Misa: Line up of Apokalypsa you know, I think (Kevin Saunderson, The Advent, Axel Karakasis, Cave and Ortin Cam, Jeff Amadeus?). Do you like this line ? up? Who from this DJ?s is in your point of view ?the best one??

Candy: It?s a honnor to be part of such a great line up and party!! I have always admire so much this guys, and now it?s like a dream for me to be playing next to them!!
Hmm?to say wich one is the best, is really hard, even because their styles are different?but I can say that I know much of Axel Karakasis?s work, Jeff Amadeus, and The Advent?they are the ones on the line up that I got the chance to know their work better, I have some records of them, and I must say that they are excelent djs/producers!! It will be awesome to meet them and play at the same party as all of them!!!

Misa: You?re a hardtecho DJ ? why do you like this kind of music? Why did you choose such a hard style of techno?

Candy: It?s hard, is happy, is up and u can?t stay still listening to Hard Techno, you just ??feel like dancing???and when I first listened, it was like completlly falling in love, and I am in still in love with Hard Techno, and commited with it!!!
It?s a mix of headbanging with shaking your body that I just can?t live without it!!
A really open minded style, and you can always make something new with the sounds on it, always good new ideas coming from the producers, and Hard Techno is always surprising the crowd and who fallows it, in my opinion it?s a style that can?t never bored you!!
I?ve always like hard style music, like Hardcore, Heavy Metal, and I identified myself really good with it! I listen from Classical Music, to Gabba music, and for me music is music, but there is nothing like see a happy dancing crowd, and that?s why I choose Hard Techno and felt in love with it!!

Misa: The biggest fame of hardtecho is gone, I think ? do you agree with this? In Europe was hardtechno really popular like two years ago, now many DJs ?come back? to classic techno ? what?s your opinion of this situation?

Candy: Hmm?I don?t agree that is gone, I just think that is ??mutating??, changing, being through some transformations, I can even call it like a ? matureness time?? to have some improvements, such as from the point of view of the crowd, as much from the point of view of people who works with it, and with that, having the right improvements, critics and hard work, something really great and new have the chance to comes out from this transformations period, and this is normal, just like everything else goes through changes one day!!!
The concept of Hardtechno in Brasil, is really ?underground??, this is how I met it, and never have been so much famous like here in Europe countries, like the biggests parties of HT had like 5.000 people, and comparing to some parties of other styles of electronic music, its really just a few people for Brasil?and here in Europe there was the ??HardTechno fever?? a few years ago, and as u said, now some djs are playing other styles, classsic techno, or changing, in some cases to really diferent style as HT, in Brasil that happened too, this happened everywhere maybe, but I think that Hard Techno will never gone, will never die, because MUSIC NEVER DIES, doenst matter the style! The crowd can maybe taking some kind of break of some style, listening to other stuff, wich is really good, cause we can?t listen only one thing!! There is so much music, so much good music in this world, that it would be a shame if people only like one kind of it...that?s why I don?t believe in the ??hype??, because hype goes fast, and dies?.and for me, Hard Techno its always there, here, everywhere, and music don?t ever turn the back against the crowd, ever!!! The music, people who loves it and really makes it with the heart, will always be here for when the crowd wants to listen to it.
Even being through some kind of changes, the fact is that music is always the same, and makes you feel something inside you, and that?s what matters, feeling something while you are listening to music, it?s like uncondicional love, but knowing and being sure, that music will never disapoint you!!

Misa: You come from Brazil ? if you compare the hardtechno scene in Brazil and in Europe ? what are the main differences?

Candy: As I answered in the previous question, in Brasil the Hardtechno scene is really more underground and imatture than here in Europe, its not that popular, maybe for being such a big country, and for being really rich in musical culture as my country is, not too many people heard about hardtechno yet. Before we used to have bigger crowds for Techno in general, now is a little diferent and more difficult with so many hyped stuff, and massive types of music?but as I said, I think everything pass through changes and comes back later with new stuff and stronger!!
It?s just a phase!!
And comparing the scenes, there is so much to be learned and improved!! We have really really good professional promoters, djs, agencies and crews in Brasil, but I think that this needs to be re-think in some aereas, like having more respect for the djs/promoters/parties works and end it up with the ??music styles discrimination??, respect everybody?s likes and dislikes, people think diferent than anothers, and this is the best thing, because it would be really boring if everybody has the same thoughs and same tastes, but the respect must to exists always!!!

Misa: Some DJs from Brazil have already moved to Europe ? for example Pet Duo. They think that in Europe there are more DJ opportunities. What about you ? are you also thinking about going to Europe?

Candy: Yes, in Europe the djs really have more opportunitties to work good and have a good carreer, because here djs are really respected as professionals. Actually even before I become a dj, I always wanted to live here, always wanted to meet the places here, and yes I think a lot about moving here. I just think that the steps must be taken one at a time. For now, I am doing my second tour here, is kind of soon maybe, to decide it, I still don?t know, I haven?t planned anything yet?hehehe
I met really nice places and for sure I could live at some places I?ve know, but first of all, I want to show (introduce) my work to everyone here, and I really hope the crowds accepts me and likes my work here in Europe, and then I will be able to think better about coming to live here!!

Misa: There are many good DJs from Brazil - DJ Murphy, Pet Duo, DJ Wehhba ? who?s the best one ? in your point of view?

Candy: Hmmm?hard question this one too?hehehe?is hard to tell wich one is the best, I admire so many brazilian djs/producers, such as the ones that are working for a long time, as the newest ones?in Brasil we always have great new talents coming up, and the ?old? talents are always surprising us and we can?t never stop lovin them?
I will say some of my favorites, if u guys don?t mind: Dj Bad, Pet Duo, Murphy, Mara Bruiser, SNL, Buchecha, TRB, Alex TB, Nortech, Chor, Lukas, Kammy, Eto & Gab, and this is really only a few of all of the djs/producers from Brasil that I really admire that I might be forgeting about someone, cause there is really A LOT!!!

Misa: What about you and producing ? do you prepare some stuff of you?

Candy: Yes, I have been working on my productions?there is still a lot to learn, and I?m learning everything I can, and im lovin it!! And soon, I hope to have something of my own to show to you guys and everybody!! Coming really soon ;)

Misa: What was the most important moment in you career? Was this the offer to join Stereo70 agency?

Candy: Yes, definittly. And before I joinned Stereo70 Family, it was really important too, because I was playing a lot in Sao Paulo, that is the place where we have the strongest Techno scene in Brasil, and being accept there as a dj is really a hard job. When I went to make a tour around Latin America (Venezuela and Columbia) was very important too. But after I joinned Stereo70, I was able to come to Europe and show my work to more parts of the world and make a lot of my dreams come true!! I think that the most important moment of anyone?s career, is when somebody believe in it, that?s why I don?t have enough words to say thank you, to all the crowds I have been playing to, everyone that supported me in anyway, and not enough thankfull words to Stereo70 Family neither, because they all believed in me and in my work!!!

Misa: What are your plans for this year and generally, for the future?

Candy: For this year, I still have the half of my tour coming up, I want to acomplish it and hopefully well done!! And after that, i want to keep working hard as always!
I want to get really deep on my production works as well, keep always putting my heart in everything I do, and be open to start new projects, and new ideas?let?s see what future and God will bring to me, so I can give it to the crowd!!

Misa: Why did you choose this nick ?Candy Cox?? Does it mean something personal for you?

Candy: Hehe?yes, there is a personal meaning???Cox?? I felt myself free to use this name, and I took it from Carl Cox, wich is for me the best dj ever!! I?m a big fan of him and his work, I saw him playing only once in my city, but it was a very special day for me, and his set changed my life, it was amazin?and ??Candy??, is just because some friends used to call me ??Docinho?? wich means Candy or Sweet in portuguese, and than I put the names togheter, and here we are?hehehe

Misa: And the last question ? what are your hobbies, what do you like to do in your free time?

Candy: Now im dedicating a lot of my time on producing, and I like to listen lots of music, mixsets from my friends who send me, new tracks, old tracks, listen to some records online, and other types of music instead of electronic too, I like to read books, watch some series on tv sometimes, go out with friends, go to parties to hang out and not only when im playing, I will always be part of the crowd, cause there was where I started, so I am always at some dancefloor..hehe?and when im in Brasil I like to spend a lot of time with my family, friends, play some pool (snooker) and cards sometimes, hehe, and I spend a lot of time on the internet too, answering the messages on my websites, I love to talk and being close to the crowd, listen what they have to say to me on the messages, knowing a little bit of each one, I love to give them back all the love they give to me, even if is through a computer, I like to be close to them everyday!!

Misa: Thank you for the interview and see u at Apokalypsa?

Candy: Thank you!!! It was great to show a little bit of Candy to Czech Republic!!
Kisses to everyone :*
